Desk Based Assessments can be undertaken at the earliest stages of a planning application to aid in the design and decision-making process . These involve site visits, documentary and cartographic research, and engagement with the relevant historic environment record and archives. They aim to identify and charatcterise assets and discuss previous and potential impacts on the archaeology, informing the potenital for further work.

Heritage Impact Assessments, like Desk Based Assessments aim to aid in design and decision-making. These also require site visits, documentary and cartographic research, and engagement with the relevant historic environment record and archives. They aim to identify and characterise heritage assets and any previous and potential impacts, which informs the design of further work.

Research & Engagement

Our team is experienced in delivering a wide range of projects to diverse audiences; working with public groups and stakeholders, to educate and share our joint heritage for public benefit. Examples includes community digs, talks, publications, educational support, display and exhibitions.

Archaeological Field Work

Evaluation & Mitigation

Our highly experienced team has the skills and knowledge to plan and undertake all types of archaeological fieldwork projects. Our service offer includes  pre-determination evaluation trenching, strip, map and record, to detailed open area excavations. Where archaeological monitoring and recording (watching briefs) are required, we ensure alignment with your groundworks programme, communicating effectively  with Principal Contractors and groundworks contractors.

Historic Building Recording

Our historic building specialists undertake building recording in line with Historic England’s guidance at all  levels. This can be from a level 1 record survey which creates a basic visual record, to more complex levels (2, 3 and 4), where detailed research, measured drawings, and interpretive analysis are required. Our team produces bespoke surveys in line with the significance of the buildings and the impacts of any material changes.

Survey

Our team can offer a range of survey options, which include: walkover surveys, LiDAR analysis and interpretation, topographic survey, geophysical survey, photogrammetry and GIS spatial analysis.
