Blair has worked in the heritage sector since 1998, developing his knowledge and skills in a vast array of archaeological settings.
He is an expert at both urban and rural evaluation and excavations, having developed expertise in sites ranging from prehistoric banjo enclosures to industrial mills.
His passion, however, lies with historic buildings and this has allowed him the chance to work on structures such as Tudor houses, Victorian swimming baths, and Edwardian convalescent homes.

Dan has worked as a professional archaeologist in and around the environs of Chester since 1990. He has managed a variety of large commercial archaeological fieldwork projects in Northwest England, from large infrastructure schemes like Manchester Airport Runway 2 to urban regeneration on deeply stratified sites like the Debenham’s (Brown’s) store in Chester city centre.
Dan has directed two large public sector archaeological research projects from inception to publication: The Chester Amphitheatre Project (Cheshire West & Chester Council and Historic England) which investigated the largest known Roman amphitheatre in Britain. The Habitats and Hillforts Project was an HLF Landscape Partnership Scheme with a multi-disciplinary team working on a 200 km2 area of Cheshire's Sandstone Ridge; which focused on the sites of six prehistoric hillforts and associated monuments.
Dan is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London (FSA), and a Vice-President of the Chester Archaeological Society. He was actively involved in the development of the Northwest Regional Research Framework (2007) and the reboot (2021). He has developed a specialism in regional pottery studies over many years and is a member of both the Study Group for Roman Pottery (SGRP) and the Medieval & Later Pottery Research Group (M&LPRG).
